Microblading
Microshading
Q&A
It all begins with brows.
-
This is a semi-permanent tattoo that is intended to fade with time. With no touch-ups, microblading should fade completely within two years after the initial service. Depending on how oily your skin is, it could fade faster than others.
-
MICROSHADING
• Microshading uses pin-like dots of pigmentation to achieve a powdered eyebrow look.
• This technique is done with a small machine that gently inserts pigment into the skin that looks very soft and misty. No hair strokes are placed, so the brow is fully covered with a light color, and little pigment is placed at the start of the brow for a soft look. This does not look like old traditional block brows! It’s soft and pretty, like a light makeup fill.
• No hair strokes are created
• Lasts longer than the other techniques
• Minimal trauma to the skinLess touch ups required
• Great for all skin types
• Best option for people who bleed and who desire the most coverage possible
MICROBLADING
• Microblading uses a bladed needle to apply pigmentation underneath the skin. Your brows will be filled by making hair-like strokes that look like natural eyebrow hair.
• This technique involves making tiny little lines in the skin with a hand tool and ink, resulting in an eyebrow tattoo that looks like hair strokes. This option shows a lot more skin than the other techniques, and for that reason many people think it’s the most subtle.
• Looks like hair strokes
• This technique typically fades the fastest
• More trauma to the skin over time, so touch ups should be minimal and spread over time
• Best for people with tight skin and small pores
• Better for people with dry and normal skin
• Not the best technique for people with extremely oily skin or people who bleed
HYBRID (microblading +microshading)
• Both microblading and microshading combined is called a hybrid eyebrow!
• Microblading With Shading
• This technique blends both hair strokes and shading into one blended outcome.
• Looks like hair strokes but with a lot more coverage
• Lasts longer than microblading
• Still some microblading, however less is needed than with microblading alone therefore less touch ups needed, thus less trauma to the skin
• Best option for those with little to no hair, or large holes in their natural brows
• Better option for people with oily skin
• Not the best technique for people who bleed
Check out the difference between them on the microblading gallery tab for pictures to see the difference between the three!

The process takes around 2 to 3 hours.

If you’re confused about the size you want your eyebrows, I suggest that you should get them done first skinnier and if you would like to make them thicker overtime at your touchup appointment we can make your brows thicker. As if you were to start off thicker at your touchup appointment we cannot go skinnier.

This is a semi-permanent tattoo that is intended to fade with time. With no touch-ups, microblading should fade completely within two years after the initial service. Depending on how oily your skin is, it could fade faster than others.
Microblading with touchup, last 9 months to 2 years.
-
If you get Botox, it needs to be done 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after treatment is done.
-
The touch up is done after the microblading healing period is over. The healing time is 4-6 weeks and you should not book a touch up appointment before the brows are completely healed and the pigment sets in properly.
-
During your appointment you will be numbed with a cream before the microblading process takes place.
-
Please check Kayy’s Makeup Service Tab.

Here's why: if you Botox before Microblading, we will create your brow based on your Botoxed features, but once the effects of Botox wear off, then the brow placement may not settle where you want it. ... And should you decide to cease Botox treatments, brows will settle at their original balanced position.
-
Bad microblading could possibly be corrected but there is a caveat: You should wait until the work from your initial appointment completely heals before going back to get your brows fixed. (6-8 weeks)
-
Even though you had previous service done with another brow technician, Kayy’s Makeup will charge full price.
-
Oily skin! Oily skin fades faster than someone who has dry or combination skin. You can still get them done but they are more likely to fade faster which results to more touchups. As your skin regenerates it pushes the pigment out to the surface over time.

MICROBLADING MAY NOT BE FOR YOU IF...
🤎Taking Blood Thinners such as: Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Coumadin etc. (within three days before your appointment)
🤎 Individuals prone to keloids, super thin skin, Rosacea or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
🤎Individuals with transmittable blood disease such as HIV or Hepatitis.
🤎If you’ve had Botox/filler in the brow area.
🤎Individuals undergoing active chemotherapy.
🤎If you have any kind of skin condition near your eyebrows. eczema, shingles, rashes, or anything else near eyebrows.
🤎Individuals with oily skin. Those with very oily skin and large pores are not good candidates for microblading but it is still possible to get procedure done. Those with less oily or combination skin, may consider other techniques we offer at the studio. More oily skin tends to push out the pigment a lot faster than an individual with combination or dry skin. This does mean, oily skin does not exclude you, you just may have to get more frequently touchups than someone with dryer skin.
🤎 Individuals under 18 years of age
🤎Individuals who are pregnant or nursing.
🤎Individuals with dark pre-existing eyebrow tattoo. we require anyone with a previous eyebrow tattoo to send us an email with a picture of their eyebrows with no makeup on to see if the tattoo is lighten enough to do microblading.
-
No you actually keep your natural eyebrows with the microblading eyebrows at the end are use an eyebrow razor for cleanup of any miscellaneous hair around your eyebrows.
-
Yes! Unfortunately this does not stop your hair from growing.
-
Microblading is a tattooing technique in which a small handheld tool made of several tiny needles is used to add semi-permanent pigment to the skin. Microblading lasts anything between 9 months- 2years, but the longevity of the pigment will depend on your skin type. 'People with slightly more oily skin will tend to last around the 9 month mark before needing a top up, but those with normal skin can last up to 2 years.
After the first initial appointment, you will need a touch up at 6-8weeks. After the touch up, which is 50$, you won’t need another appointment, if you plan on wanting them longer, for 9 months to two years.
-
I do not shave your eyebrows off before microblading. Please don't let your artist do that.
-
Yes, microblading is worth it. Your eyebrows are perfect 100% of the time. They are actually better than drawing them on all the time. Most people cannot tell you have your eyebrows microbladed, so they do not look unnatural in any way.
-
Microblading, and only microblading itself, will not cause any brow hair loss. If you notice you are losing brow hairs, it is a highly recommended suggestion to take a look at your health first. ... Brow hairs do grow and fall out at the end of their cycle for a new one to grow in.
-
Microblading won't stop your natural hair growth.
“When done correctly, microblading shouldn't have any effect on your natural hair growth. However, it can sometimes stimulate hair growth—which for most is a win-win,”
-
Because your skin needs to be as clean as possible during the microblading healing process, you should completely avoid wearing any makeup, moisturizers, or makeup primers around the area treated by microblading for up to 2-3 weeks after your original appointment. ... If you notice any signs of infection, call your doctor and alert your microblading technician right away.
-
No! Kayy’s Makeup has had no any serious issues or infections from any clients reported back.
-
1. You will have a before care list that will be sent to you before your appointment. If you did not receive this list please speak with the technician before your appointment.
2. Please dress comfortably, and be prepared to lie down for a long period of time (feel free to bring thing to keep you calm -headphones, blanket, a friend).
3. Be aware when you come to your appointment, you will have paperwork to fill out first. Unless you have received an email to fill out paperwork beforehand.
4. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, ibuprofen, aspirin and fish oil supplements for at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.
5. Avoid waxing, threading or tweezing your eyebrow 3 days prior to procedure.
6. If you are on blood thinners, you can not be consuming medication at least 3 days prior to the appointment.
7. Patients often find it helpful to bring in pictures of their ideal brow shape or color as it helps them to communicate their aesthetic goals with their microblading technician.
-
PLEASE dress comfortable to your appointment. Bring headphones with you to listen to your own music because it may bother you to hear the noice of me cutting at your skin. (Your numb so you don’t feel this.)
Paperwork will given to you that you will fill out before microblading is performed (unless you have filled out paperwork before hand in email.) After paperwork, a before picture will be taken.
The brow shape and color is custom-made to your facial structure and preferences. At the beginning of the treatment, precise measurements are taken to define a symmetrical guide and a reference grid is placed on the brow area. A marking pencil is used to draw the outline of the new brow. Your Microblading technician will provide you with a mirror to review the guide with you at each step of the way to ensure the shape meets your desired outcome.
The technician will create your brow by hand, strand by strand to get to the shape that is made just for you. We take into account existing brow shape, your facial structure, and your preferences. Once we decide on the brow form, we consult on the color. A customized hue is mixed to order (we will track the formulation, for future touch-ups), from pigments made with FDA-certified ingredients made in the USA.
A topical numbing cream is applied that stays on for about 20 minutes. We use medical numbing creams that are FDA approved and highly effective. Most patients report that they have little to no discomfort during the treatment process. We will do everything we can to ensure you are comfortable during the treatment.
A special medical pen is used to draw on individual small, hair-shaped strokes one by one, inserting cosmetic pigments into the dermis layer of the skin. The shallow cuts are filled with highest-grade pharmaceutical pigments selected to match or darken arches. The treatment takes about 1 ½ -2 hours, with enough time to assess each step of the way.
Les, your after picture will be taken. You and your technician will go over the aftercare steps of how to take care of your eyebrows and what to expect.

PREGNANT
For your safety, and the safety of your baby, Kayy cannot perform permanent makeup on you while you’re pregnant. Not to worry though – after you give birth it is totally fine for you to receive Kayy’s services! You can pre-book your appointment while you’re pregnant, or continue to follow us on social media to see more great content.
KELOIDS IN EYEBROW AREA
Unfortunately Kayy cannot perform microblading or blading and shading on people who have any history of keloids in the eyebrow area. This is because both services introduce tiny cuts, so if you have a history of keloid scarring it’s very possible you could have that after microblading. Kayy would not want that for your face! Not to worry – you may be a candidate for Ombre Powder Brows, which is a beautiful and very natural technique that is more safe for people who have a history of keloids. This is because Ombre Powder Brows involve the use of a small machine with one single needle entering the skin at a time and no cutting. Give Kayy a call so we can chat about this option for you!
CHEMOTHERAPY
Unfortunately, Kayy cannot perform permanent makeup on anyone who is actively receiving chemotherapy. Not to worry though – in most cases you can receive permanent makeup BEFORE or AFTER your chemotherapy treatment if you are in good health and your doc says it’s ok. Give Kayy a call to talk further!
BLOOD THINNERS OR BLEEDING DISORDERS
Kayy cannot perform permanent makeup on anyone who is actively taking blood thinners, or who suffers from a bleeding disorder. This is because the permanent makeup services we provide penetrate and open the skin. In both cases, you may bleed a lot, which can compromise your results and Kayy’s ability to perform the service. The bleeding makes it difficult for Kayy to see her work, which makes it almost impossible to ensure crisp clean lines and shapes. Bleeding also dilutes the pigment Kayy uses, which means any work Kayy can get done through the bleeding will be very light, or in some cases it may not stay at all. It’s more important that she provides an outstanding result for you than to take your money. Please know that Kayy is not a doctor, so prior to stopping any medication you need to consult your doctor and seek their medical opinion.
ACCUTANE USED
Unfortunately, if you have used Accutane or any similar medications Kayy is unable to perform any permanent makeup service until you have been off the medication for a year. This is because these medications will change the qualities of your skin, leading to increased swelling, bleeding and pain. In addition, your skin is unlikely to heal well after the procedure. Don’t worry though! Kayy will be here until you’re ready – feel free to follow Kayy’s Makeup on social media to stay up to date on what we’re doing and new services until it’s time for you to book!
BOTOX
Because Botox can affect the position of your eyebrows, Kayy cannot perform any permanent makeup on you unless it’s been at least 2 weeks since your Botox injections. You can totally get it before your microblading as long as it’s been 2 weeks, and anytime after your appointment is also fine
SUNBURNED
Kayy cannot perform permanent makeup on you while you have an active sunburn on your face. This is because it would cause extreme sensitivity, bleeding and pain. You can go ahead and book for at least 2 weeks later to secure your spot on the calendar when it’s safe for your skin!
SEVERE ACNE
Unfortunately, if you have used Accutane or any similar medications Kayy is unable to perform any permanent makeup service until you have been off the medication for a year. This is because these medications will change the qualities of your skin, leading to increased swelling, bleeding and pain. In addition, your skin is unlikely to heal well after the procedure. Don’t worry though! Kayy will be here until you’re ready – feel free to follow Kayys Makeup on social media to stay up to date on what we’re doing and new services until it’s time for you to book!
RETANOID/
VITAMIN A/
RETIN-A USE
Prior to all permanent makeup appointments Kayy willneed you to stop using these type of products on your forehead, temple, and eye area at least 2 weeks prior to all appointments. This is because these products will change the qualities of your skin, leading to increased swelling, bleeding and pain. In addition, your skin is unlikely to heal well after the procedure. Don’t worry though! It’s totally fine to return to using them after your brows are healed
AUTO-IMMUNE DISORDERS
Kayy wants the best for your brows and she only wants you to make this investment for yourself if we believe you will have outstanding results!
